We celebrated all things "Reading" this week at Heffley! Student participation was great. Soon into the week they were asking each other many questions about how they would be taking part the following day. So nice to hear them excited for literacy! Here are some pics of our activities (Read Me, and Favourite Book sharing) .
Hooray for cold weather! The ice was a bit bumpy but still lots of fun for our first week of skating. Students met the challenge of staying in the ice for the whole time with enthusiasm. It was also wonderful to see our more experienced skaters helping out those new to the ice. Great teamwork Heffley students! Also a big THANK YOU to our parent helpers with skate tying and on ice encouragement. We couldn't do it without you.
The cold weather also provided students with the snow needed to build and re-build an epic snow fort as recess and lunch. They have been enjoying finding new ways to strengthen this structure. Here are some pictures of our week. We started our week with celebrating the 800 veggies students have eaten, and recorded, this year so far. They made creative creatures out of fruits and veggies, can your child find his/hers below?
Students were also fortunate to attend a performance at Rayleigh, and one of our own was chosen for a volunteer! A big focus for the week was comparing animals, and we learned more about what makes a mammal a mammal and a reptile a reptile. Grade 2 and 3's are also enjoying gaining skills with multiplication. Here are some pics to share :) The Cat in the Hat came to our class! He told us about Heap he Honda for donated books, and Unplug and Play Week.
We peeked in the tank and saw our salmon have tails! The tails are beginning to poke out of the eggs. The are wiggling and jiggling and bouncing around the tank. Our goal of eating 800 fruit and veggies has been reached. Next Tuesday will celebrate by making some fun fruit and veggie creations. Stay tuned for pictures :) After 2 bonus days to play in the snow, Mrs. Morrison is very ready to have the students back at school tomorrow. The snow is VERY deep, so be sure to bring all snow gear so students can have fun in the snow during their outside times.
Also, a note will be coming home tomorrow asking for a baby/toddler and current picture for some research we are doing on growth and changes. If you see this tonight you can be ahead of the game and first up on the bulletin board tomorrow! |
