On Wednesday this week we wore pink in recognition of anti-bullying day. We learned the story of how this day began, and designed our own anti-bullying t-shirts. We also read stories of how others have taken a stand against bullying: "One" and "Spaghetti in a Hotdog Bun". Finally, students enjoyed doing some role play as we took on the parts of Bully, Bullied and Bystander. We played out some ways bullying situations could be resolved respectfully.
We are happy to announce the hatching of 2 chicks in our class! The have been greeted with lots of love, caring and attention. Students have been eagerly learning about the life cycle of chickens and various other animals. Soon these babies will be going to their forever home with the Wall family. Thank you von Hollens for the eggs!
On Monday this week we worked on our cooking skills. We learned about safe cutting, food handling, hand washing and the 4 food groups. Students took turns, chopping and preparing the toppings for individual pizzas. The results smelled amazing, and most students tried something new today! In gearing up for Valentines Day next week, we were talking about kindness and friendship this week. Students talked about what it means to be kind and how to be a good friend. Friday's challenge was to find one person to genuinely say, "I like you" to. Hearing these words echoed in the halls, and the beaming smiles it brought forth, was priceless!
We also learned about animals who hibernate, migrate or adapt to survive in the winter. Here are some pics of the week. They include making foil animal sculptures, some measuring and math activities, using the gym apparatus and our presentation on Secwepemc (Shuswap First Nations) animals. |
