This will be our last blog post now that summer is here. Students and I had a great week recalling favourite moments from the year, harvesting our garden, reviewing our blog, and anticipating what each balloon in the balloon count would hold! We also said a special goodbye to our students who are moving on to Rayleigh next year.

We were waiting all week for Friday, so we could enjoy some pool time together. Although the weather started out a bit chilly, students didn't complain :)
This week was an active one at Heffley. We started off with our Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off. Students rotated through 4 heart-pumping jumping stations.
We celebrated our wonderful Mrs. S and her baby this week with a fun shower. Mrs. S received many thoughtful cards and gifts from our students and families, thank you all for helping with the celebration!
We took a close look at poetry this week (with a buddy). Some favourite poems are written by Jack Prelutsky, Shel Silverstein, and our fellow Canadian, Dennis Lee! Writing our own poems was also a focus this week. Some of our poems were even published in the newsletter. We also took a moment to say goodbye to our salmon fry, as they will be returning to nature next Tuesday. Happy travels little friends! This week we went on a seed walk. We wore a sock on one foot to see what kind of traveling seeds we might collect. Along the walk we found a few different seeds and pods, but not many seeds seem to be around quite yet! What we did find, we pasted and labelled in our Thinking Books. 2-d and 3-d shapes were a new focus for us this week. We brainstormed words to help describe the shapes we see. We also started sorting shapes into different categories. Making shapes on geoboards and using 3-d shapes to build were popular activities this week. On Friday we celebrated becoming 100 days smarter! Our Helper of the day added the special Golden Link to the chain, completing our group of 100 links! So satisfying. Students brought in collections showing 100 in various ways. We tried a new 'round the circle' type of sharing to talk about the collections, it was quite fun and loud. Students worked at building and comparing groups of 100 in various ways. We celebrated at the end of the day by creating (and munching) a 100 day Mix Up. The 100th day of school is so much fun! |
